About Us
The Sam Swope Auto Group is owned by the Swope family of Louisville, Kentucky and is composed of 15 dealerships in Louisville, and 8 affiliated dealerships in Lexington, Radcliff, and Elizabethtown.
The Sam Swope Auto Group was founded in 1951 by Sam Swope in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Since those humble beginnings, Sam Swope and his family have grown the business to become the #1 New and Used Car Dealer in the Kentuckiana region (as ranked by Business First, December 2007). Sam Swope continues to manage the company as Chairman of the Board. Sam Swope has contributed back to his community through numerous civic and volunteer roles including service on the boards of the Louisville Water Company, the University of Louisville Overseers, University of Louisville Hospital, Lincoln Heritage Council of Boy Scouts of America, Kosair Charities, Kosair Children’s Hospital, Norton Hospital, and more. He has been honored with the 1971 Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award, a 1999 recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Lincoln Heritage Council of the Boy Scouts of America, as a 2000 Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame laureate, and is the recipient of the 2003 Ohio State University Alumni Citizenship Award. When not found behind the wheel of one of the latest model automobiles, he can be found riding the back roads on a motorcycle.
The Sam Swope Auto Group is managed today by Richard S. “Dick” Swope as President and C.E.O. As the dealer for Courtesy Cadillac in Louisville, Dick Swope merged his operations with Sam Swope Pontiac GMC, Inc. in 1988 to form the Sam Swope Auto Group. Since that time he has worked to build the group of dealerships that offers a diverse range of products. Dick is involved in numerous civic activities including service to the University of Louisville Board of Overseers, Norton Hospital, and the Lincoln Heritage Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
As the most public face of the Sam Swope Auto Group, Patti Swope serves as Executive Vice President, Business Development and spokesperson in television and print advertising. Patti supervises new dealership construction and existing facility remodeling, as well as community relations. Patti currently serves on the boards of The Louisville Zoo and the Kentucky Humane Society. She is passionate about the welfare of animals.
